According to a post in Anime on DVD's forum yesterday, an ADV Films
representative gave out the official word on where their company intends
to stand on the overlays that appear in several of their titles, most
noticeably in Neon Genesis Evangelion and the upcoming Nadesico release.
"[...] word has come down that going forward, ADV will NOT be overlaying
text in any more videos." From Anime on DVD's understanding, they
believe that the remainder of Neon Genesis Evangelion will not have
overlays, but the already started (and extremely text heavy) Martian
Successor Nadesico will retain their overlays. The decision was in
response to fan dissatisfaction with the first volume of Neon Genesis
Evangelion on DVD.
